EU Info BUS on the road around Montenegro!

The EU Info Bus is continuing its path through Montenegro started in Cetinje on February, 14th 2013. The next stop was the municipality of Danilovgrad visited on March, 20th 2013.

With the aim of increasing knowledge and awareness of the citizens of Danilovgrad, the project team carried out an educative and informative campaign in cooperation with the municipality of Danilovgrad and with the support of the EU Delegation to Montenegro.

The EU Info Bus, as central attraction of the activities, was parked on the city square ‟IX December”. Here, on the several stands put in place for the occasion, the citizens of Danilovgrad enjoyed the possibility of inform themselves on the European Union, on the importance of the EU membership for Montenegro and on the role that local communities can play in the accession process.

On this occasion, the visit to the municipality was attended by: H.E. Mitja Drobnič, Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, H.E. Martin Pamer, Ambassador of Austria to Montenegro, Milivoje Jurišić, Secretary of the Negotiation groups of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, as well as representatives of the project implementing organisations, i.e. of the Centre for Civic Education and of the NGO Natura.

After a meeting with the Mayor of Danilovgrad, the ceremony for the opening of the programme was held on the city swuare. The opening speech was given 

druga slika Danilovgrad za websiteby Daliborka Uljarević, who stated that the goal of the Centre for Civic Education is of bringing Europe closer to citizens in a new and innovative way and to get citizens acquainted with the challenges but also benefits that are awaiting them on the path of Montenegro towards the EU. The Mayor of Danilovgrad, Branislav Đuranović, welcomed the citizens and gave the floor to H.E. Mitja Drobnič, who pointed out the historical tradition of Danilovgrad but also its readiness to the upcoming time for integration. He further underlined the importance of young and older generations who will both benefit from the possibilities that the EU brings with it.

Concluding the opening ceremony, they visited the stands and talked with interested citizens and the occasion was also a chance to have a look at the “Umjetničke kolonije” (a group of statues situated on the city square)

treca slika Danilovgrad za websiteOn the same day, a panel discussion entitled ‟Local communities in the process of European Integration” was organized at the premises of the municipality building of Danilovgrad. Panellists of the discussion were. Daliborka ULJAREVIĆ, Executive Director of the CCE, Branislav ĐURANOVIĆ, Mayor of Danilovgrad, Milivoje JURIŠIĆ, Secretary of the Negotiation Groups of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, H.E. Mitja DROBNIČ, Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro and H.E. Martin PAMMER, Ambassador of Austria to Montenegro.

The topic addressed by panellists was how and in which way local communities can take part in the EU negotiation process, taking into consideration the experience insofar and future plans of the municipality of Danilovgrad.

The panel discussion was attended by a big number of citizens of the municipality, local businessmen, members of the Council, members of local communities, local NGO representatives and students and pupils of the local high school that actively commented and took part in the discussion..
